Local Things To See
Sightseeing in Tuscany and Umbria is very special. There is a very good chance you might not want or need to leave the villa, but if you do venture out there are a huge amount of things to see, eat, sample, explore and indulge in - whatever time of year you decide to visit us.
Local Towns
Citta di Castello, about 10-15 mins away, is an attractive town and has all facilities including shopping, restaurants (over 40 in all) and supermarkets. Similarly sized Sansepolcro (25 mins) is the birthplace of Piero della Francesca - part of the "Piero della Francesca trail" which includes nearby Monterchi (15mins away) where the only known picture of a pregnant Madonna can be found.
Sights Worth Seeing
Highly recommended to those on their first time to Italy and the Umbrian region is to hop in the car and visit some of the most beautiful and interesting cities in Europe. There are good motorway / dual carriageway links to other places of interest including Perugia (20 - 30mins), Florence (1hr 30mins); Arezzo (30mins); Siena (1hr 15 mins); Assisi (40 mins); Gubbio (45 mins) and even Rome (2hrs 30 mins). (see local guide)
Local Vineyards
Chianti, Brunello Di Montalcino, Montepulciano and Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Maybe above all else the local region is famous for it's wines and vineyards (Ital: Vinetti) and there is no better way to feel like you've escaped to real italy than taking a local tuscan or umbrian wine tour. You can either make a day of it on the numerous organised tours or you can simply wander off to a local vineyard and stock up for the week. (see local guide for details ).
